Tonight, my husband Nick and I walked our dogs around 10 pm (and a day after our 20th anniversary!).
As we were walking, we marveled at the beautiful sky with stars sparkling everywhere. I was asking Nick how he thought God created the heavens. I told him my theory was that God held a handful of sand and blew it out of His omnipotent hand, and as the sand grains tumbled away, they got bigger and bigger and bigger, and then they were stars. And just to keep us on our toes, God painted the Big Dipper for entertainment and to make us ask this exact question: How did He do it? Needless to say, Nick didn't share my opinion - he does not think God would be so haphazardly blowing stars around. Either way, they are beautiful and worthy of marveling at them. I am reminded of Psalm 8:2-4: "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" And Psalm 19:1 says: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." And a song came to my mind that I learned shortly after I met Jesus and He became my Savior - it really dates me as it is one of the 70s Christian songs: "In the stars His handiwork I see, On the wind He speaks with majesty. Though He ruleth over land and sea, What is that to me? I will celebrate Nativity, For it has a place in history, Sure, He came to set His people free, What is that to me? Til by faith I met Him face to face, And I felt the wonder of His grace, Then I knew that He was more Than just a God who didn't care, That lived away out there and ..... Now He walks beside me day by day, Ever watching o'er me lest I stray, Helping me to find that narrow way, He is everything to me." You can listen to it here. Twinkle, twinkle, little star...!
